Senna Leaf Tea
Senna Leaf Tea is made from
Senna Leaves. Senna Leaves comes from the small, peelable-bark
shrub that grows in the upper Nile regions of Africa and the
Arabian Peninsula. Senna grows in most tropical regions
of the world. Both its leaves and its seeds are medicinal. Due
to its stool-softening action, Senna is especially useful for
people with hemorrhoids or anal fissures. It tends to remain
soft beecause there is not much time for fluid to be absorbed
from the stool. The Senna Leaf was
considered a "cleansing" herb because of its cathartic effect.
It relieves constipation by stimulating the colon, thus
hastening passage of the contents.
According to a rare and amazing Egyptian medical papyrus,
dating to the 16th century B.C., Senna was prescribed by the
physicians for their distinguished patients. Arabian physicians
has also used it extensively. Senna was introduced to Europe
before the Crusades and has been widely used ever since. Senna
is often combined with various sweet-smelling herbs.
For making the best cup of senna leaf tea we can use two
methods. One is called an infusion which is used whenever you
are brewing a cup of tea from leaves or flowers or other soft
or fragile material. The second method is a decoction which is
used whenever you are brewing a cup of tea from bark, roots,
seeds, or other hard materials.
