Memory Foam
Before we begin this article
we should probably answer the question: just what is memory
foam? Well, memory foam was developed by NASA in the
1970’s for use on space missions. While it was never actually used in space, the
technology was quickly picked up by the medical industry as a
method of relieving pressure sores.
Hospitals used memory foam both in bed mattresses and as a
seat cover for wheelchairs. They found that using memory foam
instead of traditional materials allowed patients to sit or lie
in the same position for a long time before they began to
experience discomfort.
We having yet answered the question: what is memory foam?
Well, memory foam is simply a type of material that is firmer
and more supportive than traditional mattresses. It allows for
improved support, and alleviates back and neck problems due to
the additional support. Because of this, memory foam has become
extremely popular in the consumer market since it first broke
onto the scene in the early 1990’s. Since then the industry has
gone from strength to strength, and we are now at a point at
which memory foam mattresses are far and away the fastest
growing sector of the mattress industry. It could be the case
that, 10 years from now, we will all be sleeping on memory foam
mattresses.
You can find more information on memory foam elsewhere on
the Internet. Where to buy it, what type of density will suit
you, and where to get the best prices can all be found using a
search engine search for “memory foam.”
