What Are The Complications of
Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease with serious complications such as
blindness, thrombosis, cataract and nephropathy. Therefore, if
you're been diagnosed with diabetes, you need to be sure to
take care of yourself properly so you can have a normal
life.
Diabetics can become tired quite easily and also
experience nausea and heart palpitations. They can frequently
be affected by hypoglycemia which can result in the diabetic
falling into a coma.
Diabetics may also experience complications resulted in
amputations. It's good to know that medical science has
discovered many treatments that can help a diabetic lead a
normal life. A person that has been diagnosed with diabetes
needs to see his or her doctor on a regular basis.
A number of years ago Type 1 Diabetes was a fatal disease.
That was before insulin was discovered. Now people diagnosed
with Type 1 Diabetes can live long and satisfying lives.
Diabetic individuals need to have their disease monitored
very closely because they are at risk for blindness and renal
disease. And diabetics are also more susceptible to
infections.
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you need to pay
special attention to the condition of your feet since diabetes
can lead to diseases of the feet -- such as abscesses.
Diabetics are susceptible as well to gangrene, which leads to
amputation of infected limbs.
Diabetics can easily have the small blood vessels in the
kidneys, eyes and nerves gradually damaged over a period of
time because of chronic hyperglycemia. These parts of the body
can be adversely affected.
People suffering with diabetes are also more susceptible to
having their blood vessels becoming blocked -- with the result
that parts of the body such as heart and lungs don't get enough
blood supply. This, of course, can lead to premature death.
People diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes can often fall into a
coma because of hyperglycemia. This is probably due to the lack
of enough insulin being injected into their bodies.
Sometimes a diabetic individual cannot use glucose anymore
as fuel and as a result acidic ketosis occurs. This means that
sugar cannot even pass into the cells because of a lack of
insulin. Then the body's cells are attacked which can lead to
premature death.
